Govt. to release 16.12 lakh tonnes of sugar for February, 2012

The Central Government has decided to make available 16.12 lakh tonnes of sugar for February 2012, a quantity that it says would be sufficient to meet the internal demand for the commodity during the month.

This quantity includes 2.12 lakh tonnes of levy sugar and 14 lakh tonnes of non-levy sugar, an official press release said here today.
 
The non-levy sugar includes normal quota of 12.50 lakh tonnes and 1.50 lakh tonnes of availability on account of carryover quantity of unsold/undispatched non-levy sugar quota of January, 2012, it said.
 
Sugar factories shall sell/deliver and dispatch the entire non-levy quantity released for February, 2012 within the validity period of the release order up to 29.02.2012, the release added.
