NULM to set up service centres for urban poor

The National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) will establish service centres, to be called "Aadhar Kendras", which will act as a "one-stop shop" for those seeking services from the informal sector as well as for the urban poor promoting their services and produts or seeking information relating to employment and training.

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation has envisaged that the NULM will replace the existing Swaran Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojna (SJSRY) from the beginning of the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17).

An official press release said NULM would be target-oriented with specific focus on the primary issues pertaining to urban poverty such as skill upgradation, entrepreneurship development and employment creation through wage employment and self-employment opportunities opened up by the emerging markets in urban areas. It will adopt a Mission approach.
