CBI arrests Andhra Pradesh Home Secretary B P Acharya in Emaar case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had arrested B P Acharya, the Principal Secretary (Home) of Andhra Pradesh and a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, in a case related to real estate developer Emaar.
Acharya, who belongs to the 1983 batch of the IAS, was the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) between 2005 and 2009, when the alleged scam took place.
The case is related to alleged irregularities, including in the matter of land transfer and sale of apartments and villas, in the execution of an upscale township project developed by Emaar and APIIC.
