9 killed, 27 injured as rogue driver hijacks bus and goes berserk in Pune

At least nine persons were killed and 27 injured when a driver hijacked a state transport bus from the Swargate depot in Pune and went berserk, hitting as many as 40 vehicles during a nearly one-hour rampage on the city's roads over a 15 km stretch, police said.

Pune Commissioner of Police Meeran Borwankar told newspersons that nine people were confirmed dead and 27 injured in the incident. The injured were rushed and admitted to four city hospitals.

She said the driver, identified as Santosh Mane, 30, was on duty and had plied buses normally till yesterday. He had reported for duty around 7.30 pm yesterday. She said he took control of an empty bus, belonging to the Satara depot, around 8.15 hours this morning and went berserk on the roads.
