5 pilgrims killed in road mishap near Harihara in Karnataka

Five pilgrims were killed and eight others injured when a truck collided with the van in which they were travelling near Harihara on national highway (NH)-4, 20 km from here, early today.

Police said the victims were returning to Ontigodi in Mudhol Taluk of Bijapur District after a pilgrimage to Sabarimala when the mishap occurred.
 
While four people were killed on the spot, another succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The injured were admitted to the District Hospital.
 
The diseased were identified as Vittal (30), Manjunath (20), Siddu Nayak Desai (23), Thippanna (24) and Van driver Lakappa (35).
 
The truck driver is absconding. Inspector General of Police (Eastern Region) Sanjai Sahai was among those who visited the spot.
