Prasanna Kumar Pincha appointed as Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has appointed Prasanna Kumar Pincha as the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD).

Pincha, who assumed charge on December 28, 2011, is the first time that a person with disability has been appointed to the post.

The CCPD is appointed by the Government as per the Section 57 of the Persons with Disability Act, 1995.

The appointment of Pincha comes at a time when the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is in the process of finalization of new Act for Persons with Disability (PwDs), which the Ministry says would, in many ways, compliant with United Nations Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
