PM announces relief for cyclone-hit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced an interim relief of Rs 500 crore for Tamil Nadu and Rs 125 crore for Puducherry, which were hit by cyclone Thane in the last week of December.
 
The interim relief is based on preliminary reports about the damage caused by the cylcone, an official press release said.
 
A central government team is currently visiting the affected areas and will be submitting its report on its return, based on which a final relief as may be admissible will be sanctioned, the release added.
