Congress leader Sant Singh Brar joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) along with his supporters today ahead of the elections to the Punjab legislative assembly.

This was announced by Brar in the presence of SAD patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Welcoming Brar into the party, the Badals presented him a "saropa".

Sukhbir Singh Badal said  Brar would be the official party candidate from Gidderbaha against Peoples' Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal.

Brar said he was annoyed over the Congress high command's decision to field youth leader Amrinder Singh Warring Raja from Gidderbaha ignoring him and the sentiments of local Congress activists.

He said he would file his nomination papers as an SAD candidate from Gidderbaha on January 11.
