3 Ayyappa devotees killed in road mishap in Tamil Nadu

Three Ayyappa devotees were killed and two critically injured when a speeding car dashed against them at Salaipudur, near Bathlagundu, here this morning.

Police said the deceased were identified as Ilayaperumal (50), Sridhar (45) and Dakshinamurthy (60).  
 
A group of five Ayyappa devotees, hailing from Jayankondam, were proceeding to Palani after a pilgrimage to Sabarimala.  
 
En route to Palani, they took a bath in an irrigation tank at Salaipudur and, while crossing the road, were hit by a speeding car, killing three of them on the spot.
 
Two other devotees, Kulandainathan and Arumaidoss, who were critically injured in the mishap, were rushed to the Bathlagundu Government Hospital.
 
The occupants of the car were going to Uthamapalayam from Tiruchirapalli to attend a function.  The driver of the car, Murugesan, was arrested by the police.
