20 feared drowned in Ganga river in Bihar

About 20 people were feared drowned in a boat mishap in Ganga river near Jhaon village under Kharik police station in Bhagalpur district of Bihar last night.

Sub-divisional officer of Navgachhiya Sushil Kumar said here today that about 70 people were returning with fodder from across the river when their motor boat capsized mid-stream. 
 
Overloading of the boat was stated to be the reason behind the incident. "Fifty people swam safely to the shore while 20 others were missing," he said, adding that divers had been pressed into service to look for them.
 
The missing persons were residents of Usmanpur, Sugathia, Nawada and Khairpur villages, Kumar  added.
