Amit Saigal, editor of music magazine Rock Street Journal (RSJ), drowned off Bogmalo beach while swimming in south Goa yesterday, police said.

Police said 47-year-old Saigal from Delhi and his four friends were in Goa on a holiday.

Yesterday, they hired a boat from Mandrem and left for Palolem beach at Canacona. When the boat reached Bogmalo, they anchored it about 400 meters off the beach. Saigal jumped into the water for a swim.

When one of his friends saw him floating in the waters, he rushed towards him. A life guard on shore, seeing him in trouble, also rushed to the spot on a jet ski and brought Saigal to shore.

As Saigal was not responding to first aid, he was immediately shifted to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Saigal appeared to be suffering from some respiratory problem and the cause of his death was not known, police said.
