1300 delegates from 54 countries to attend Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Jaipur

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), the high-profile annual convention of non-resident Indians (NRIs) and persons of Indian origin (PIOs) that will be held in Jaipur from January 7-9.
 
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar, will be the Chief Guest at the event that will be attended by more than 1300 delegates from 54 countries.
 
Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi told a press conference here today that eight Ministers of Indian origin from various countries, 10 Central Ministers and an equal number of Chief Ministers and other Ministers from State Governments were expected to participate in the conference.
 
Ravi said the theme of PBD-2012 was “Global Indian-Inclusive Growth”.
Singh will inaugurate the event on January 8 and President Pratibha Patil will deliver the valedictory address on January 9 and confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards.

Ravi said three pre-conference seminars were being organised on "Solar Energy- Investment and R&D", ‘"ocial Entrepreneurship-Water" and "Health".
 
The PBD Oration this year will be given by eminent economist and management expert  Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. 
 
Ravi said the event would be webcast online and a summary of its proceedings would be released every day. The interactive website would provide an opportunity for the diaspora to participate in the conference from any part of the world. 
 
The Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre will organize a market place for business delegates, he said. 
 
PBD-2012 is being held in partnership with the Government of Rajasthan with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as the institutional partner. 
 
Ravi said India’s rich culture would be depicted in the evening programmes being presented for the delegates.
