BJP names three more candidates for Punjab assembly polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today named three more candidates for the January 30 elections to the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
The candidates were chosen at a meeting here today of the BJP's Central Election Committee presided over by party president Nitin Gadkari.
The meeting was also attended by senior party leaders L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, among others
The list released today includes the name of Navjyot Kaur Siddhu, the wife of BJP MP from Amritsar and former Indian Test cricketer Navjyot Singh Siddhu.
The BJP is a junior partner of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the ruling coalition in Punjab.
Under their seat-sharing agreement, the BJP will contest 23 seats while the SAD will put up its candidates for 94 seats in the 117-member Assembly.
With today's list the BJP has named its candidates for all the seats to be contested by it, having released its first list of 20 candidates on January 2.
Apart from Siddhu, who will contest from Amritsar East, the other two candidates announced today are Tarun Chugh (Amritsar Central) and Som Prakash (Phagwara-SC).
