BJP announces 20 candidates for Punjab assembly elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a list of 20 candidates for the January 30 elections to the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
The list includes 11 sitting MLAs and two women candidates.
The candidates were chosen at a meeting here yesterday of the BJP's Central Election Committee presided over by party president Nitin Gadkari.
The meeting was also attended by senior party leaders L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, among others.
The BJP is a junior partner of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the ruling coalition in Punjab.
Under their seat-sharing agreement, the BJP will contest 23 seats while the SAD will put up its candidates for 94 seats in the 117-member Assembly.
