The condition of veteran social activist Anna Hazare, who was hospitalised here yesterday is improving, Dr K H Sancheti of the Sancheti Hospital said here today.

Hazare, who underwent several tests after being admitted to the hospital early yesterday, was diagnosed with severe chest congestion.

The number of white blood cells (WBC) has gone up, which indicates lung infection. The oxygen level in his blood is 98 per cent which is quite good, though he initially required additional support of oxygen, it was removed last evening, Dr Sancheti said.

The other parameters like blood pressure and blood glucose levels are normal and now there is nothing to worry about Hazare's health, he added.

Hazare, who has hypertension and joint pain, is also suffering from brittle bones. Tests will be carried out on him this afternoon to determine whether he also suffers from osteoporosis, Dr Sancheti said.

The 74-year-old activist was also suffering from listlessness, and it was difficult for him to sit and talk for long.

Hazare has been advised rest for a month by his doctors and to refrain from fasting or carrying out any agitation which has led to uncertainty about Team Anna's proposed campaign against Congress in five poll-bound states.

Arvind Kejriwal, a member of Team Anna's core committee, is visiting the city to inquire about Hazare's health today.

Following Hazare's illness, the core committee will meet in New Delhi or Ralegan Siddhi soon and decide the future course of action, said Suresh Pathare, Hazare's personal secretary.

Due to Hazare's poor health, Team Anna's core committee meeting, scheduled for today, had been cancelled. Asked about the fresh date of the meeting, Pathare said the date had not been decided yet.
