Police resorted to a cane charge to bring the situation under control after tension prevailed in Sindhgi town in the district in the wake of miscreants hoisting the Pakistan flag atop a government office here on New Year's Eve late last night.

Tension prevailed in the town and a self-imposed strike was witnessed after the flag was seen on the mast in the Tahasildar's office compound.

Police resorted to a mild cane charge to disperse the enraged mob, which attacked Sindagi Tasildar and protested against the hoisting of the flag.

Superintendent of Police D C Rajappa visited the spot and said it was an act of some miscreants and that the flag was immediately removed.

Those behind the incident would be brought to book, he said.
