Raj Bala Malik of Congress elected Chandigarh Mayor

Congress candidate Raj Bala Malik was today elected Mayor of Chandigarh, defeating her Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival Asha Jaiswal by a margin of 9 votes.
 
Out of the total 36 councillors, 21 voted in fevour of Malik while 12 voted for Jaiswal. BSP candidate Jannat Jahan polled only two votes while one vote was declared invalid.
 
The Congress also captured the two posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
 
Darshan Kumar Garg, (Cong), was elected Senior Deputy Mayor, defeating his BJP rival Des Raj Gupta. Garg polled 21 votes while  Gupta got 13 votes.
 
Congress candidate Satish Kainth was elected Deputy Mayor, defeating SAD-BJP candidate Malkeet Singh. Kainth polled 23 votes as against 13 polled by Malkeet Singh.
