CBI registers bribery cases against senior MES officers in Sriganganagar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two separate cases of bribery against a Garrison Engineer (an officer of the rank of Major) and a Commander Works Engineer (CWE) of the Military Engineer Services (MES) at Sriganganagar in Rajasthan.
A press release from the CBI said the two officers had allegedly demanded and accepted bribes for clearing of bills from contractors.
On the basis of complaints, the CBI, after due verification, laid traps and caught the Garrison Engineer and the CWE while allegedly demanding and accepting bribes of Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, from the complainants.
According to the release, during searches at the premises of the CWE, cash worth about Rs 57.84 lakh, jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh, savings certificates of Rs 2.50 lakh and documents of a flat in Jaipur were recovered. The search at the residence of the Garrison Enginer revealed some bank accounts, which are being scrutinised. Further investigations are continuing, the release added.
