2 wagons of Army freight special train derail

Two wagons of an army freight special train derailed between Karjoda and Palanpur stations today, affecting rail traffic on the Palanpur-Ahmedabad route in Gujarat.

The two wagons, which were next to the engine of the train, derailed at around 1130 hours, blocking the tracks.

Following this, senior railway officials rushed to the spot and put the wagons back on track in the late afternoon, the officials said.

At least five passenger trains including Haridwar-Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad- Haridwar, Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi and Ajmer-Bangalore trains were delayed by two to three hours, they said.

No major damage was reported. The Railway Police Force (RPF), however, denied any sabotage.

A technical team, which rushed from Abu Road, attributed the derailment to packing (repair) work on the main railway line.
