Sitting ruling Congress MLA Malkhan Singh was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here last night in connection with the case of a nurse, Bhanwari Devi, who has been missing since September 1.
The legislator, who was evading appearance before the agency despite three summons, presented himself before the investigators yesterday evening for questioning about his links and alleged illicit relations with the missing nurse.
He was taken into the custody after the interrogation, official sources said.
Earlier in the day yesterday, the sons and other family members of the legislator from Luni Assembly constituency, assured the agency that he would appear before them for interrogation.
The agency sleuths today also grilled sacked Minister Mahipal Maderna's wife Lila, controversial lime kiln owner Goverdhan Chaudhary and Bhanwari Devi's minor son.
Malkhan's brother Parasram Bishnoi and Maderna have already been arrested by the agency in the case and presently are in judicial custody till December 24.
The nurse had disappeared from Bilara town near here on September 1 and has since then been untraceable. It is believed that she has been killed.
In an FIR lodged at Bilara police station, the nurse's husband had alleged that Maderna or his henchmen had sexually exploited, abducted and probably killed her.
However, Maderna and some of the key suspects now allege that the nurse was blackmailing them on the basis of a CD.
The nurse's husband Nat has also been arrested in the case for alleged involvement in the conspiracy.
