The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution demanding that Belgaum be declared a Union Territory.
Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai tabled an adjournment motion on the Belgaum issue. He said Karnataka government had dissolved Belgaum Municipal Corporation and the Marathi-speaking people there were suffering from the "atrocities unleashed by Karnataka".
"Karnataka government is deliberately neglecting voice of Marathi-speaking people," he said.
Speaker Dilip Walase Patil declined the adjournment motion and said an all-party meeting with government would take care of views of all.
Earlier, uproarious scenes were witnessed and the House was adjourned for four times over the issue. All members strongly demanded a debate on the issue.
