The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had arrested 13 persons in cases relating to the recent violent clashes between two communities at Gopalgarh in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.
The agency had, on October 11 this year, registered five cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the matter on the request of the Rajasthan government.
The cases relate to alleged violent clashes on September 14, 2011 between two communities, in which firearms were used and police later opened fire to quell the violence.
As many as 10 people were killed and more than 40 people were injured in the violence that arose out of a dispute over a piece of land.
A CBI press release said the agency had formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the incidents. Experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory of the CBI have also visited the scene of the crime and collected evidence. The SIT has so far examined more than 150 witnesses.
The arrested accused were due to be produced today in the court of Special Magistrate, CBI Cases, Jaipur. Further investigation is continuing, the release added.
