Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today filed his nomination paper for the December 22 bye-election to the Legislative Council from the Assembly constituency.

Gowda, who took over as the Chief Minister on August 8, has to get elected to the State Legislature within six months to meet the Constitutional requirement.

He is currently a member of the Lok Sabha representing Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency.

The Congress has also expressed its intention to field a candidate for the lone seat to go for bye-election.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who had to step down following corruption charges, has appealed to the Opposition Congress and Janata Dal (S) to ensure the unanimous election of Gowda.
