Standing committee report on Lokpal Bill not acceptable: Hazare

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare today said the report on the Lokpal Bill, submitted by the Standing Committee to Parliament today, was not acceptable as it would not help in preventing corruption.

Criticising the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Hazare said Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was behind "the plot and we are not going to accept the government Lokpal Bill".

In a frontal attack on Gandhi, the social activist held the Congress leader responsible for the poorly drafted Bill.

The Standing Committee had prepared the draft on Lokpal Bill on the direction of Gandhi, "which is rejected not only by Team Anna but by all the common people of the country also," Hazare said.

Hazare said class C and D employees of the Central government should also be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal.

Addressing Ralegan Siddhi villagers here, Hazare strongly objected to the Standing Committee bill and said, "We want a strong Jan Lokpal Bill."

He said Prime minister Manmohan Singh had promised that Lokayuktas would be appointed in every state. "However, now, I have my doubts about his promise being fulfilled."
