Karnataka fast bowler Vinay Kumar has been picked as a replacement for the injured Varun Aaron in India's Test tour to Australia beginning December 26.
Aaron's injury was detected last evening, making him India's second first-choice fast bowler to pull out of the squad due to injury. Praveen Kumar had been ruled out of the Australia tour late last month after suffering a rib injury.
Aaron, who along with Umesh Yadav was touted as India's pace sensation, will now rehabilitate and hope to get fit before the tri-series in Australia, which begins after the four-Test series, with Sri Lanka as the third team. The nature of his injury is not yet known.
Aaron, 22, has so far played one Test and four ODIs for India, taking three and six wickets, respectively. While he made his ODI debut against England, his Test debut came about in the first Test against the visiting West Indians - both at Mumbai.
The 27-year-old Vinay, who is currently part of India's ODI squad, is yet to make his Test debut but has been part of India's limited-overs setup for close to a year since making his debut against Zimbabwe in May 2010 at Bulawayo. He has taken 16 wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 36.31.
India play the first Test against Australia from December 26 after two warm-up games against Cricket Australia Chairman's XI on December 15-16 and December 19-21.
