Krishna charged under Prevention of Corruption Act in FIR

The investigation into the illegal mining episode in Karnataka today spread to three former Chief Ministers, including External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, besides a host of officials with the Karnataka Lokayukta Police (KLAP) filing a first information report (FIR) against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Besides Mr Krishna, other former Chief Ministers named in the FIR include Congress MP N Dharam Singh and Mr H D Kumaraswamy.
 
They have also been charged under various sections of Karnataka Forest Act and  Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act.
 
The FIR was filed by the KLAP Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Satyanaraya Rao before the Lokayukta Court headed by Judge N K Sudhindra Rao who, acting on a private complaint filed by one T Joseph, directed the probe.
 
After conducting an inquiry, the Lokayukta police today filed the FIR. Besides the three politicians, 11 officials including IPS and IAS officials have been named in the FIR. 
 
They included Basappa Reddy, Gangaram Baderia, V Umesh,I R Perumal, K S Manjunath, D S Ashwath, Jeeja Madhavan Harisingh, all IAS Officers, Mahendra Jain, K Srinivas, M Ramappa and Shankaralingaiah.
 
The investigation of this case has been entrusted to a team consisting of Mr S M Jagadeesh Prasad, Superintendent of Police of Lokayukta Police, Tumkur, who will be the chief investigating officer and M R Sannathimmappa, DySP, Lokayukta in Chitradurga and Mr T G Sridhar Shastry, Inspector, Davanagere will be assistant investigating officers, Mr Rao said.
 
The complainant alleged that the three Chief Ministers permitted illegal mining.
