Former Karnataka Minister B Sriramulu, who contested as an independent candidate and won the bye-election from the Bellary Rural (ST) Assembly Constituency, today declared that his victory is the end of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state for the "ill-treatment" meted out to him.

Dedicating his victory to the people, Mr Sriramulu told mediapersons that "the people have taught a lesson to the BJP in the state as it not only ill-treated me and my friend Gali Janardhana Reddy, who is in jail at Hyderabad, but also forced us to face humiliation at their hands."

"People very well know the contribution of Reddy brothers, me and other workers from North Karnataka which led BJP to make inroads in the South and capture power.

"Our help to the party's victory may be a very little but it contributed to Yeddyurappa's efforts in bringing the party to power," he said.

"But after Yeddyurappa stepped down due to illegal mining issue, the treatment meted out to us was really very painful, I cannot forget those days," he said.

Replying to a question,Mr Sriramulu said that he would discuss with Mr Janardhana Reddy about floating a regional party.

Expressing confidence that Mr Janardhana Reddy would be released early, he said that concrete steps towards floating a new party would be taken after consulting the leaders of all sections.

He said that many people were of the opinion that a regional party would not be successful. "I want to prove they are wrong. However, a final decision in this regard will be taken immediately after release of Janardhana Reddy," he added.
