In a huge disappointment for rock music fans, a concert by international band Metallica scheduled for tonight Gurgaon near here was cancelled as the organisers could not secure a permit for the show.

The concert, earlier slated to be held last night, was postponed by the organisers for the day after chaos at the venue of the event.

The promoters of the show were unable to secure a permit for the show on Saturday at such a short notice with the result that the concert was cancelled.

In a statement here, DNA Networks, the organisers of the show, announced that Metallica would not be able to play in Delhi.

They said those holding tickets for the concert would be given a full refund.

"Within the next 24 hours, a notification will be issued by DNA Networks regarding the process for full refunds," the statement said.

"Metallica is deeply disappointed with this news and will continue to send updates as additional details are determined and confirmed," the band said on its website.

The Metallica concert in Bangalore will, however, go ahead as per schedule tomorrow.

Meanwhile, sources said the Gurgaon police have arrested four people, including a top official of the company organising the Metallica concert, on charges of cheating and breach of trust, as the event was postponed at the last moment.

Rajesh, the general manager of DNA Networks, was arrested along with the team members Umesh, Ashok Singh and Savio Faleiro, the sources said.

They were arrested under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

The concert by the rock band had evoked tremendous excitement in the National Capital region (NCR). The news of the concert's postponement yesterday led the huge crowd waiting for the performance to go berserk.

As soon as the organisers announced that the show has been postponed, people began pushing each other, broke barricades, started shouting and throwing water bottles.

The venue was vandalised by irate fans, many of whom threw bottles at the security personnel, who formed a human chain on the stage.

Technical equipment was destroyed as angry fans threw chairs at the LED wall.

The four member-band are known for albums like the 1986 release "Master of Puppets" and the 1991 album "Metallica", which reportedly sold over 15 million copies in the US and 22 million copies worldwide. Their last release was "Death Magnetic" in 2008.
