Centre will consider Delhi-Chandigarh Express Highway: Joshi


Union Road Transport and Highways Minister C P Joshi today said the Centre would earnestly consider the ambitious Rs 8,000 crore project of Express Highway from Delhi to Chandigarh along the Yamuna river and was also considering conversion of eight state roads of Haryana into National Highways.


Mr Joshi was responding to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s request for these projects at the foundation stone-laying function for four laning of Rohtak-Panipat section of National Highway-71 A at Gohana today.


The 81 kilometer long four-laning project will cost more than Rs 800 crore and is likely to be completed by October, 2013. It will have three railway overbridges, three major and five minor bridges, four grade separators, 15 underpasses and six byepasses.


Mr Joshi announced that the Centre was also considering converting eight state roads of Haryana into National Highways as per the demand of Mr Hooda.
