President to visit flood-affected areas of Leh on Wednesday

President Pratibha Patil will visit Leh in Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow to see for herself the relief activities in the areas that were devastated by flash floods and mudslides following a massive cloudburst on August 6.

An official press release said Ms Patil would tour the affected areas, which saw widespread loss of life and public and private property, and meet people in relief camps.

She will also be briefed by civil and military officials about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations.

Ms Patil will distribute shawls and sweaters to the affected people in the relief camps. Later, she is also slated to address defence personnel in Leh, the release added.

At least 192 people were killed and more than 400 were injured in the flash floods and mudslides.
