NAC to continue consultations on Food Security Bill
The National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Ms Sonia Gandhi today discussed the proposals of its working group on the proposed National Food Security Bill and decided to continue further consultations on the measure that will have far-reaching cost and other implications.
A statement from the NAC after today's meeting said Mr Harsh Mander, one of the members of the Council and convener of the Working Group on the Food Security Bill, made a presentation detailing its proposal.
The proposal highlighted various components of the proposed Bill such as inclusive and enhanced public distribution system (PDS), child and maternal nutrition, special programmes for destitute and vulnerable groups, PDS reforms and enabling provisions.
Other members who attended today's meeting included Prof M S Swaminathan, Dr Ram Dayal Munda, Prof Narendra Jadhav, Prof Pramod Tandon, Dr Jean Dreze, Ms Aruna Roy, Mr Madhav Gadgil, Mr N C Saxena, Dr A K Shiva Kuamr, Mr Deep Joshi, Ms Farah Naqvi and Ms Mirai Chatterjee.
Ms Naqvi, convener of the Working Group on the proposed Communal Violence Bill, apprised the members of the status on the re-drafting of the Bill. The Group has constituted a Drafting Committee and an Advisory Group. Details are available on the NAC website, including a dedicated e-mail address for citizens to make submissions.
