New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani engine derails in W. Bengal, passengers safe

The engine of the 2302 down New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express derailed at a station in Hooghly district of West Bengal this morning, but there were no casualties, railway officals said.

Eastern Railway spokesman Sameer Goswami told NetIndian over the telephone from Kolkata that the two front wheels of the engine had jumped the rails but none of the coaches was affected and no one was injured.

Mr Goswami also told television channels that some pandrol clips, which are used to fasten the rails to the sleepers, were found near the spot and, therefore, sabotage could not be ruled out.

The mishap occurred around 9.30 am when the train was leaving the Baruipura station, about 50 km from Howrah, at slow speed.
