Spar Supermarkets in South India organise Imported Food Festival

The Spar chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets has organised an Imported Food Festival at all its stores in Bangalore, Mangalore and Hyderabad from August 21 to September 12.


According to a press release from the company, more than 3500 food items from 28 countries will be on sale during the event.


The products range from chips and snacks, biscuits and cookies, confectionery, juices and drinks, breakfast cereals, jams and spreads, canned foods, Italian pasta, soups and sauces, salad dressings, wines and cheeses, freshly imported exotic fruit, staples and oils, spices and curry pastes, dairy and frozen products, delicatessen products and much, much more.


The event is in pursuance of Spar's philosophy of providing the customer with the finest range of products at the best value, giving the customer a truly international shopping experience, the release said.


It said there would also be daily activities of sampling for the different product ranges which will be held to allow customers to test and taste products before purchasing them through live demonstrations. Sample sachets and packs will be distributed freely to customers as well as scratch cards to win fabulous prizes. Information on how to use the product and easy to follow recipes will be given out to educate the customers and encourage them to be more adventurous with their palates!


Spar hypermarkets and supermarkets in India are the result of a license agreement between the Dubai-based Landmark Group's Max Hypermarkets India Pvt Ltd and Spar International. Spar is a major independent food retail chain and is present in 37 countries with 13,875 stores and a turnover of $ 42 billion.


According to the release, Max Hypermarkets is responsible for the entire business operation - from capex outlay to day-to-day operations. Management control also rests with Max Hypermarkets. Spar provides knowledge transfer and brings with it best practices in international retailing and technical expertise to ensure that the brand is being accurately represented, whilst ensuring that the local partner retains their financial independence to deliver the best solution in each market. Spar International will play an integral support role in the development of the hypermarket format in India.


Spar currently has three stores in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad. It recently opened a hypermarket in Mangalore, the release added.
