President, VP, PM greet people on occasion of Raksha Bandhan

President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President M Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which will be celebrated tomorrow.


"This festival is uniquely symbolic of the bonds of love, affection and mutual trust which have existed for centuries between sisters and brothers of every community in our country. May their united endeavours bring prosperity and progress to all sections of our people," Ms Patil said in her message.


Mr Ansari said the festival celebrated the relationship between brothers and sisters and reinforced the spirit of family bonding, societal harmony and peaceful co-existence.


"I am confident that these celebrations will go a long way in spreading the message of fraternity, solidarity, love and affection among citizens," he said. "May this Festival bring about amity and goodwill in our lives."


Dr Singh said Rakhi symbolized affection and reinforced family bonds. "On this auspicious occasion let us make renewed efforts to ensure the dignity and well being of women and to promote peace and harmony in society," he added.
