Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated badminton ace Saina Nehwal on her triumph in the Indonesian Open at Jakarta, her third major international title in a row in as many weeks.

In a message to the Hyderabad-based shuttler, Dr Singh said she had shown spirit, determination and skill in winning the title.

He also said Saina had done the country proud and was a role model for the youth.

Saina, ranked number three in the world and the defending champion and top seed in the tournament, prevailed 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 over unseeded Sayaka Sato of Japan to win the event after a 45-minute see-saw battle.

She had earlier won the Indian Open Grand Prix Gold in Chennai and then the Singapore Open Super Series last week.
