Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated the Indian cricket team for winning the Asia Cup.

In a message before his departure for Toronto to attend the G20 Summit there on June 26-27, Dr Singh said the Indian players had displayed team spirit and fighting qualities in bringing laurels to the country.

India defeated defending champions Sri Lanka by 81 runs in a rather one-sided final of the tournament at Dambulla in the island-nation yesterday. In the process, the country broke a 15-year-old jinx in the Asia Cup, having last won the tournament at Sharjah in 1995.

Batting first, India put up 268 for six and then bowled out the hosts for 187 in 44.4 overs.
