Air India signs agreement for land for aircraft maintenance base in Nagpur

National carrier Air India today said it had signed an agreement for 50 acres of land in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near the Nagpur airport for setting up an aircraft maintenance base with investments of Rs 500 crores in the next three years.


A press release from the airline said it had signed the agreement in this regard with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) yesterday.


The release said aircraft manufacturer Boeing Company would facilitate the construction and equipping of the facility.


It said the state-of-the-art facility would be used for major maintenance of its Boeing 777 and 787 fleet by Air India as well as for providing services to third parties.


The agreement was signed by Mr K M Unni, SBU Head and Board Member of Air India, and Dr R C Sinha, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of MADC. Mr Suvendoo Ray of Boeing was also present.


Mr Unni said the project was an important step in realising the potential of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) business in India.
