Vasundhara, Varun and Katiyar in Gadkari's new team
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin today inducted inducted former Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar of Himachal Pradesh and Bhagatsingh Koshiyari of Uttarakhand, hardliner Vinay Katiyar and actor-turned-politician Hema Malini as Vice-Presidents of the party.
Two other former Chief Ministers, Vasundhara Raje of Rajasthan and Arjun Munda of Jharkhand, have been brought in as General Secretaries while young Member of Parliament Varun Gandhi, television actress Smriti Irani and former Test cricketer Navjyot Singh Sidhu have been named as Secretaries.
The new 121-member National Executive announced by Mr Gadkari has 13 Vice-Presidents, 10 General Secretaries, 15 Secretaries and a Treasurer.
The other Vice-Presidents in the new team, which is a blend of youth and experience, include Mr Kalraj Mishra, Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Ms Karuna Shukla, Ms Najma Heptullah, Ms Bijoya Chakravarti, Mr Purshottam Rupala and Ms Kiran Ghai.
A party press release said that, as provided for in the BJP constitution, the office-bearers include as many as 13 women, which is 33 per cent of the total number. In all, there are 40 women in the National Executive.
Mr Gadkari has also constituted the BJP's Parliamentary Board. The release said the names of members of the Central Election Committee, Morcha Presidents and Conveners of different cells, besides some other functionaries, would be announced later.
Besides Ms Raje and Mr Munda, the other General Secretaries are Mr Ananth Kumar, Mr Thavarchand Gehlot, Mr Vijay Goyal, Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad (Chief Spokesperson), Mr Dharmendra Pradhan, Mr Narendrasingh Tomar, Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda, Mr Ram Lal (Organisation), Mr V Satish and Mr Saudan Singh (both Jt. Gen. Sec. Org).
The other Secretaries named today are Mr Santosh Gangwar, Ms Saroj Pande, Ms Kiran Maheshwar, Mr Tapir Gao, Mr Ashok Pradhan, Mr Muralidhar Rao, Dr Kirit Somaiyya, Dr Laxman, Capt Abhimanyu, Ms Arati Mehra, Mr Bhupendra Yadav and Ms Vani Tripathi.
Mr Piyush Goyal has been named as the party's Treasurer, while Mr Prakash Javdekar, Mr Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Mr Shahnawaz Hussain, Mr Ramnath Kovind, Mr Tarun Vijay and Ms Nirmala Sitharaman will be the spokespersons.
