Delhi police arrrest three robbers after encounter
The Delhi Police today arrested three youths, who they said were part of a gang of robbers planning to rob a money exchange firm, after a gunbattle with them in the Farsh Bazar area of the capital.
Two persons, including one of the gangsters and a police constable, were injured in the incident, the police said.
The three were identified as Sandeep, 27, Narender, 26 and Danny, 27. The police said they had recovered two country-made pistols with five live cartridges and a motorcycle from their possession.
According to the police, they had been tipped off that some members of the gang would assemble in the Shahdara area for planning to rob a money exchange firm in Karol Bagh.
A team of policemen in plan clothes waited for them and noticed two youths arriving there on a motorcycle. The youths got suspicious and pulled out their firearms.
According to the police, they were asked to surrender but they started firing and one bullet hit a constable in the upper portion of the head.
The police team said they returned the fire and injured two of the youths, one of whom managed to escape. Three of them were finally apprehended.
The injured gangster and constable were admitted to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. The windscreens of many vehicles parked in the nearby area were shattered in the encounter, the police said.
According to the police, the three arrested men admitted to being involved in several robberies, murders and snatching incidents in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. They said that no member of the public was hurt in the encounter though it took place in a crowded area because of the restraint exercised by the police.
