3 more swine flu deaths in India, toll goes up to 1404

Three more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 1404, an official statement said here today.


While no deaths were reported during the day, information about three deaths that occurred in recent days - two in Rajasthan and one in Maharashtra - was received from the state authorities concerned by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today, it said.


Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 383, while 299 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 196 in Rajasthan, 148 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Punjab, 38 in Haryana, 37 in Kerala, 28 in Madhya Pradesh, 19 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.


The statement said 24 new cases of the flu were reported today, including 20 in Maharashtra and 1 each in Delhi, Karnataka, Goa and Rajasthan.


With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,904, the statement added.
