Mohsina Kidwai elected Chairperson of Haj Committee

Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai was elected as the Chairperson of the Haj Committee of India at the first meeting of the reconstituted committee here today.

Mr Hasan Ahmed and Mr Aboo Bucker were elected as Vice-Chairpersons of the Committee, a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The Haj Committee Act, 2002 provides for the establishment of a Haj Committee of India for making arrangements for pilgrimage of Muslims for Haj, and for matters connected therewith.

The Ministry of External Affairs is the nodal authority in the Central Government for administering the Act. The committee was reconstituted recently after the three-year term of the previous Haj Committee had expired.
