Proposal to extend CISF cover to more power plants

The Government has said that there was a proposal to extend Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover to more power plants in the country.


Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken told the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question yesterday that, as of now, 72 power plants across the country were being provided security cover by the CISF.


He said militant and terrorist outfits had planned to target some power plants in Jamu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.


According to him, besides the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), there are also reports of Maoists having undertaken extensive recces to target CISF armoury located in some power plants.
