Sharma invites Malaysian investors to infrastructure, power, housing sectors

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma today invited Malaysian investors to invest in India in sectors such as infrastructure, power and housing.

At a meeting with Malaysian Minister of International Trade & Industry Mustapa Mohamed here today, the two Ministers discussed ways of enhancing trade and investment between the two countries.

They noted that bilateral trade had grown robustly at a compunded annual growth rate of 29 per cent in the last five years and had crossed $ 10 billion mark in 2008-09.

Mr Sharma urged Mr Mohamed to facilitate the early conclusion of India-ASEN Services and Investment Agreement negotiations. The two Ministers also discussed the state of play of the Doha Round negotiations at the World Trade Organisation.

According to an official press release, both sides reviewed the status of the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) negotiations and noted that two rounds of negotiations had taken place so far. They mandated officials to conclude the negotiations by the end of 2010.

The Malaysian Minister invited Mr Sharma to visit Malaysia in June this year along with a business delegation, the release added.
