S C Sinha named as DG of NIA

Mr S C Sinha, currently a Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1975 batch (Haryana cadre), Mr Sinha will succeed Mr R V Raju whose tenure as the first head of the NIA came to an end on January 31.
The Union Government set up the NIA after the November 26, 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai to investigate and prosecute offences affecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.
The agency is aimed at speeding up investigations into terrorist attacks and other major crimes with inter-state ramifications.
