Apparel Training and Design Centre being set up at Chhindwara
Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran has laid the foundation stone of the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) at Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh that will help to meet to meet the shortage of skilled workers in the apparel industry.
The estimate cost of setting up a permanent campus for the ATDC is Rs 10 crore. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath, who represents Chhindwara in the Lok Sabha, was also present at the function held yesterday.
Mr Maran said the apparel industry required five lakh trained workers and skill development centres such as the ATDC were needed to meet this demand.
He said the intake of students at the ATDC would increase from the present level of 500 to 2000 once the permanent campus was constructed.
Mr Maran also announced that Rs 1 crore would be sanctioned by the Ministry of Textiles for the holistic development of two existing handloom clusters at Saunsar and Lodhikhera in Chhindwara district. He also said that two additional handloom clusters would be developed in the area.
Mr Kamal Nath said the ATDC would be a boon to the skill development of textile workers in the area.
