Sports Ministry introduces procedure for recognition of Sports Federations
The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has introduced a new annual procedure for recognition of all National Sports Federations (NSFs) with effect from January, 2010.
In a communication sent to the heads of all recognised NSFs, the Ministry has asked them to furnish detailed information relating to 20 important areas.
These include details of current management along with affiliate states/units, memorandum of association, annual reports, audited accounts of last three years, names of core probables, coaches including foreign coaches, Government observers, and participation in international, national and zonal championships.
They will also have to provide information on elections held, steps taken for dope-free sports, including compliancewith WADA/NADA code, details of positive cases found and action taken thereon, details of funds received from various sources, action taken on issue of identity cards to national athletes and steps for prevention of age frauds.
The Ministry said any federation which failed to comply with these requirements would not be granted renewal till such time as they furnish the information sought. They will also not be eligible to receive assistance from the Government for the period of the gap in recognition, it added.
