6 more swine flu deaths in India take toll to 543
Six more people have died on influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 543, an official statement said here today.
One of the deaths was reported from Maharashtra during the day, while three deaths in Haryana and two in Rajasthan, which occurred in recent days, have now been confirmed as cases of swine flu, it said.
Of the total number of swine flu deaths in the country, Maharashtra now accounts for 216, while 119 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 49 in Andhra Pradesh, 45 in Gujarat, 30 in Rajasthan, 25 in Kerala, 18 in Delhi, 8 in Haryana, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 each in Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
As many as 157 fresh cases of the flu were reported from different parts of the country today, including 45 in Delhi, 38 in Rajasthan, 20 in Haryana, 19 in Maharashtra, 16 in Uttar Pradesh, 11 in Tamil Nadu, and 4 each in Karnataka and Kerala.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 16201, the statement added.
