3 more H1N1 deaths in India, toll goes up to 537
Three more deaths due to influenza A (H1N1) in India have taken the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country to 537, an official statement said here today.
Two deaths were reported during the day from Rajasthan, while one death that occurred earlier in Maharashtra, of a person from Madhya Pradesh, has also been confirmed by the state authorities, it said.
Of the total number of swine flu deaths in the country, Maharashtra now accounts for 215, while 119 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 49 in Andhra Pradesh, 45 in Gujarat, 28 in Rajasthan, 25 in Kerala, 18 in Delhi, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Haryana, Goa and Uttarakhand, 3 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 each in Orissa and Punjab and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
As many as 118 fresh cases of the flu were reported from different parts of the country today, including 27 in Haryana, 25 in Rajasthan, 15 in Delhi, 14 in Kerala, 10 in Karnataka, 9 in Uttar Pradesh, 5 in Tamil Nadu, 4 in Orissa, 3 in Chandigarh, 2 each in Punjab and Uttarakhand and 1 each in Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 16,044, the statement added.
