Cabinet approves Rs 370 cr security system for Commonwealth Games
The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal by the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) for an Integrated Security System (ISS) for the Commonwealth Games that Delhi is slated to host in October next year.
The system, which will cost Rs 370 crore, will cover various competition, training and other venues for the Games as well as the cost of bandwidth, an official press release said.
As per the "Host City Agreement" all venues associated with the Commonwealth Games 2010 are to be provided with specified facilities including security, the release said explained.
The ISS is expected to ensure uniformity, compatibility and economies of scale and a complete security solution. It is scheduled to be delivered by March 31, 2010.
Accoring to the release, this is for the first time in India that a project for installation of an ISS on such a large scale is being implemented.
The indigenous capacity creation and capacity validation to provide such a state-of-the-art security cover for large-scale events will not only set new benchmarks but would be vital for the secure conduct of the Games, it added.
