PM congratulates Indian football team on Nehru Cup win

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated the Indian football team on winning the Nehru Cup International Football Tournament here last night.

"Congratulations on your remarkable win last evening. It was a magnificent performance and the whole country is proud of you. The victory I am sure will inspire sports men and women across the country," Dr Singh said in his message.

Mercurial goalkeeper Subrata Paul made three brilliant saves in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out as India defeated Syria 6-5 in the final after the two sides were locked 1-1 at the end of the regular 120 minutes.
